One of my favorite quotes that is always in the back of my head when setting a personal goal is “If you can dream it, you can do it.”- Walt Disney.
Having my own photography show was a long lost dream of mine that always got postponed due to everyday struggles. After a very rough year, I decided to share my perspective on inspiration through photography. I started by gathering photos I took since I started my path in photography. After that, I went on a hunt for the right space! I started brainstorming spaces that could bring the design industry together for a fun night full of art and networking and that is when CI Select came to mind.
CI Select is a St. Louis-based office furnishings firm located in west St. Louis County known as a great resource for corporate, education, government and healthcare furniture. I reached out to Lisa Moehle, and she was very excited about the event idea.
Preparing for a photography show is not as easy as you might think. The collaboration with CI Select and TOC Artwork sure made it easier. You can always print photos in a nice way. The key is presenting your images in a unique way that your audience doesn’t expect, and that is exactly why I printed all my photographs on a metal substrate.
Ashley Mendez with TOC Artwork, who became a main resource in experimenting with the printing and framing process, helped me experiment with multiple substrates to guarantee a crisp finish to the photos, After a couple of tries, metal prints won the show.
The show focused on landscape architecture photographs captured in St. Louis and other cities around the states. Luckily, there was a great turn out, and I was able to sell four images.
I am blessed with amazing co-workers and talented professionals to help me make this show happen. Keep a look out for my next shows coming up this year in Alton, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; and Chicago, Illinois.Rawan Abusaid
